1972 Gay Liberation formed in Auckland
1976 National Gay Rights Coalition established (Ak)
1977 ‘OUT’ magazine founded
The KG club for Lesbians formed in Auckland
1978 Laetus Social Club established in Auckland
1980 Auckland Gay Task Force established after police raid on Gay sauna
1981 First openly Gay candidate for parliament (unsuccessful) Dr Ian Scott, Labour, Mt Eden
1982 Auckland University Gay Group set up (now Queers on Campus)
1983 Young Gays Group inc set up in Auckland
1985 Homosexual Law Reform Bill proposed; many rallies for and against the famous disruption of the North Shore anti-reform meeting
2000 attend pro law reform rally at the Auckland Town Hall
Heterosexuals Unafraid of Gays (HUG) formed in Auckland
Meeting of American Anti-Gay preacher Lou Sheldon is disrupted
Nationwide marches in support of Bill (20,000)
1986 The Homosexual Law Reform Bill is passed 49 votes to 44
1987 Meeting in Auckland to establish a Gay Community & Health Centre (now the Pride Centre)
1988 Isherwood Trust (now Pride Centre) set up
Auckland Gay Community Conference - key speaker Eric Rofes (former director, Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Community Welfare Center)
1989 Isherwood Trust extends to include Lesbians
